Broad vs Narrow

When you’re thinking about tackling an area in your home to declutter, you can use a broad or narrow approach (or a combination as is needed).

Broad decluttering is about using a birds eye view and thinking in broad categories. This might look like working on some easy wins, large items that are rubbish or are to be decluttered. It might be about consolidating half full boxes of items so you can clear some space for future narrow decluttering.

Broad might look like creating space by going through and getting rid of rubbish or donations as a starting point. Broad might also look like sorting into categories before decluttering so you can see what you have.

Narrow decluttering is about touching every single item in a category and making a decision about each item. This might be where you want to start, or maybe you want to start broad and then focus on narrow.
